OS X vs. Windows security

I read a nice Story on Digg today. How an OSX Server could be hacked reasonably fast using some unpublished exploits.

Yes, I believe that's quite possible. Of course the Apple pro/contra bashing started in the digg comments. As much as I like Apple (no, really, I do love my iBook) - but few Apple fans forget that Apple is just a normal computer company run by normal humans. They make mistakes and judgment errors just like anyone else.

Compare OSX to a nice and clean house build on a small Midwestern town in contrast to Windows being a building in New York.

Sure, in OSX you may not have to lock your front door and the ground build on is more stabile. Whereas using Windows you defiantly have to lock your door (and buy a few additional door locks if you can) and the base may be hollowed and cracky with all the pipes, subways etc.

But what happens if more people come to live in the small town? It will grow larger, getting a few crocks and robbers with the good people, and also getting some problems with all the infrastructure demands. Just remember, nothing is forever. Use a system you like/need to use and try to be as secure as necessary.

It won't hurt to lock the door even in a small town....

take care,
Kashif -
